Which diamond cut is best for an eternity band?
The cut changes the whole character of the ring. Here are the five you'll see most, all available at ECI Jewelers:
- Round brilliant: the most sparkle and the most classic look. It is also the most affordable per carat, and it is our entry point at $1,335.
- Emerald cut: long step-cut facets give "hall of mirrors" flashes instead of glitter. It is elegant and architectural, and the most popular fancy shape in our collection.
- Asscher cut: a square step cut with a vintage, Art Deco feel.
- Oval: the stones sit end to end and look larger for their weight. Oval bands are a true statement ring.
- Radiant cut: the outline of an emerald cut with the sparkle of a brilliant. It is a good middle ground.

Which setting is most secure?
- Prong (including shared prong and French prong): small metal claws hold each stone, so the most light reaches the diamonds. This gives the most sparkle, and it is the setting used on every band in our collection.
- Channel: the stones sit between two metal walls. It is very secure and smooth, with a little less sparkle.
- Bezel: a thin rim of metal wraps each stone. It is the best for active hands.
Whatever the setting, have the prongs checked by a jeweler about once a year, especially on a ring you wear every day.

Can you resize an eternity band?
Usually not by much. Because diamonds circle the whole band, there is no plain metal to cut or add. That is why the correct size matters more than with any other ring. Two tips:
- Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger, and in a normal room temperature. Our guide to measuring your ring size at home walks through it.
- Expect carat weight to vary by size. On fancy-cut bands, a larger finger needs more stones, so the total carat weight (and price) rises slightly. Our round 14K bands are the exception: they are made with the same total weight in every size.
Is an eternity band a wedding band or an anniversary ring?
It can be either. Many brides wear an eternity band as the wedding band, stacked with the engagement ring. Others receive one later: according to Robbins Brothers, eternity bands are traditionally given for the 5th, 10th, 20th and 25th anniversaries. A bold emerald or oval band can also stand alone as a statement ring. Is a full eternity band uncomfortable?
Most people get used to it within days. If you have wide knuckles or type a lot, a band with smaller stones, or a half eternity band, will feel smoother between the fingers.
Can you wear an eternity band as an engagement ring?
Yes. Larger emerald, oval or radiant cut eternity bands are often worn alone as engagement rings, especially by people who want sparkle without a raised center stone.
How many carats should an eternity band be?
For stacking with an engagement ring, 1 to 3 total carats keeps the band in proportion. As a standalone statement ring, 4 carats and up gives a bolder look.
Should my eternity band match my engagement ring metal?
It looks most seamless when they match, and matching metals also wear evenly against each other over time. Mixing white and yellow gold is a popular look, too. Just choose metals of similar hardness, such as platinum with platinum, or 18K with 18K.
